05/05/2020 - +HOME: Supporting Homerton Hospital

We thought you might like to know what we’ve been up to during lockdown.

+HOME is an initiative set up by four friends from East London: artists Fiona Banner and Melanie Manchot, designer Nina Tolstrup and Sam Clark, from Moro and Morito restaurants.

Their aim is to support their local Homerton Hospital during the COVID-19 crisis, and with the help and expertise of some amazing volunteer chefs from restaurants – Lucky and Joy, Moro and Morito – +HOME now delivers 120 delicious and nourishing hot meals, four days a week to frontline staff most in need of good food and moral support after a physically and emotionally exhausting shift.

One young nurse said: “You just made the end of my day so much better. I can go home now and sleep, no need to stand in line and go shopping.”

The meals are varied, vegetarian and always nutritious. The first week we cooked Ribollita, a hearty Tuscan vegetable and bean soup, then Koshari – a popular Egyptian street food of lentils, rice, chickpeas, pasta, tomato and red chilli salsa. Lucky & Joy served a delicious Aubergine Rice Bowl, then Tarka Daal, Pilau Rice and Courgette Pakora, the list goes on!

From Jude Williams, deputy chair of Homerton Hospital: “On behalf us all, we are so grateful to the +HOME team for producing gorgeous, freshly made food for our frontline staff”.
